KWS Oilseed Rape Establishment Partnership (OEP) with new candidate conventional variety BLAZEN

  • The KWS OEP offers a practical solution to growers with the ever increasing challenge of getting oil seed rape crops established.
  • The OEP shares the risk of establishment between the grower, merchant and breeder.
  • The initial seed cost is lower for the grower, allowing better cashflow and offers flexible seed rates.
  • BLAZEN is high yielding conventional candidate variety with multi-gene resistance to stem canker.
  • It yields well across the main OSR regions of England and has had excellent performance in KWS UK trials.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Register with James Mortimer Ltd.
  • Purchase certified seed at lower upfront cost and drill as normal.
  • On 1st November declare the area established and pay balance on established area only.
  • For more information please contact the office.

Elevation - Conventional

  • New to the RL in 2018, Elevation is one of the highest yielding conventional varieties for our region.
  • It offers decent autumn seedling vigour in order to establish a competitive crop, and produces a good tap root in autumn to help the plant through winter.
  • Elevation has a good resistance to lodging and stem stiffness at maturity.

DK Exclaim - Hybrid

  • This variety narrowly missed out on making the Recommended List, despite its high yield potential and excellent lodging resistance.
  • It has a rapid autumn growth habit which aids fast establishment to get the crop to grow away from the vulnerability of cabbage stem flea beetle damage as quickly as possible.
  • Relatively wide drilling window.

DK Imperial CL - Clearfield variety

  • With cruciferous weeds and volunteer oilseed rape becoming an ever increasing problem for many oilseed rape growers, the clearfield system offers an alternative method of producing good yields without grain quality contamination issues at harvest.
  • DK Imperial CL is the mostly widely grown Clearfield variety in the UK producing a consistently decent yield and scores an 8 for lodging resistance.
  • It has a rapid autumn growth habit which is advantageous for establishing a vigorous crop to grow away from pest pressures. A PGR may be required in autumn on fertile sites for canopy management.
  • Tolerance to Clearfield herbicides Cleranda and Cleravo.
  • Sprayer hygiene throughout the season and post-harvest cultural volunteer control is essential to manage Clearfield volunteers in the rotation.
  • Group B (ALS-inhibitors) herbicides should not be solely relied upon for volunteer control.
  • Double phoma and pod shatter resistance.
