Locally Grown Seed From Established Growers

Mortimers sell a wide range of cereals, oilseed, pulse and herbage seeds including specialist environmental mixtures.  Cereal seed is produced in-house, using our new state of the art seed processing facility which was built in 2014 and has been significantly expanded in 2021 to include further cleaning and dressing infrastructure and the addition of a Cimbria optical sorter. The optical sorter is designed to remove all impurities using colour, size and shape to give the purest possible sample.

The new facility processes seed quickly and reliably, allowing Mortimers to increase their annual throughput considerably.  Oilseed and herbage seed is supplied by a select number of local providers to ensure a quality product to match the high level of in-house produced seed.

We also offer Farm Saved Seed cleaning, with a full range of chemical seed treatments which is monitored as part of the Bayer Precision Seed treatment scheme.

The majority of our cereal seed is grown locally by well established seed growers and we are continually looking for new seed growers to help meet with increased demand.

We have three licensed seed samplers and five licenced crop inspectors, ensuring quality of production and service from field to bag.

Additionally, since Spring 2017 Mortimers Ltd is a fully-accredited member of the European Seed Treatment Assurance scheme (ESTA), which provides independent assurance that our seed treatment procedures are accurate, efficient and safe.

Vibrance Duo

Vibrance Duo

Fludioxonil (25g/l) + Sedaxane (25g/l)

A fungicide SDHI-based seed treatment for better establishment and rooting. If offers an opportunity to give crops a vibrant start with outstanding control of key diseases. Vibrance Duo has clear benefits for improving root growth and uptake of nutrients, resulting in better stress and disease tolerance without delays in emergence. Diseases controlled include fusarium, microdochium, bunt, loose smut and rhizoctonia. Vibrance Duo allows SDHI sprays to be applied and can be co-applied with other seed treatments.

Redigo Pro

Redigo Pro

Prothioconazole (150g/l) + Tebuconazole (20g/l)

Single purpose dressing for barley, wheat and oats. The product gives protection against all important seed and soil-borne diseases including septoria; control of bunt and loose smut; active against Ergot and blue mould; helps reduce Fusarium, seedling blight and stem browning.

Raxil Star

Raxil Star

Fluopyram (20g/l) + Prothioconazole (100g/l) + Tebuconazole (60g/l)

A specialist fungicide seed treatment for barley. It protects against a broad spectrum of seed borne diseases, ensures excellent establishment and improves crop performance and quality. Controls seed-borne net blotch, loose smut, leaf stripe and covered smut. Reduces fusarium and microdochium seedling blight and stem-base browning.

Latitude

Latitude

Silthiofam (125g/l)

A specialist fungicide seed treatment for use on barley and wheat. Latitude is the only seed treatment available for take-all control and has proved successful. It is applied with a single purpose dressing such as Redigo Pro or Vibrance Duo. Although an expensive product it is very effective, growers with second and third cereals in their rotation should consider a Latitude seed dressing.

Manganese dressing

Manganese dressing

This can be used on barley, oats, wheat and triticale. Manganese improves plant vigour helping to promote plant establishment, better rooting and disease resistance, especially to mildew in winter. A manganese seed dressing aids crop winter stress tolerance and buffers travelling issues for applying manganese in autumn. Deficiency is common on alkaline soils where a higher pH reduces availability and also lighter soils which are naturally prone to leaching and deficient in micronutrients such as manganese. Growers with these soil types should seriously consider a manganese seed dressing.

Kick Off

Kick Off

Phosphate/Phosphite mix (180g/l), Manganese (80g/l), Potassium (40g/l), Nitrogen (20g/l), Zinc (20g/l), Sulphate (10g/l), Amino Acids

Phosphite based products – e.g. Kick Off/Take Off. A popular seed dressing with a wide range of nutrients to assist in rooting and healthy establishment of strong, vigorous crops. A seed treatment of Kick Off/Take Off can be particularly useful for later sown crops which may be going into colder/wetter seedbeds. Can be used on most crops.

Oilseed Rape

Hy-Pro Duet

Hy-Pro Duet

Prochloraz (150g/l) + Thiram (333g/l)

A fungicide seed treatment which delivers broad spectrum disease control and control of the soil borne 'damping off' complex fungi, resulting in better establishment and seedling health. A key strength of Hy-Pro Duet is the reduction of Phoma infection on the cotyledons and first leaf.

Thiraflo

Thiraflo

The industry standard with contact activity against multiple seed and soil borne fungi including damping off, seedling blight and seed decay.

Phosphate/Phosphite mix (180g/l), Manganese (80g/l), Potassium (40g/l), Nitrogen (20g/l), Zinc (20g/l), Sulphate (10g/l), Amino Acids

Phosphite based treatments – Kick off / Startup etc. These products promote root growth and reduce plant stress, resulting in higher yield potential. The popularity of these seed dressings has greatly increased since the banning of Modesto & Cruiser. With cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) now posing a major challenge to the establishment of OSR, these seed dressings can help establish the crop as quickly as possible to increase early vigour and reduce the time the crop is susceptible to any major damage. Can be used on most crops.
